Director of Free Trade Zone

The FTZ Director will manage legal compliance and provide import administration and control within government rules and regulations regarding a foreign trade zone operation. Interface with internal and external customers, freight forwarders, customs officers, and other functional areas to ensure proper customs admission and entry for goods into and out of a free trade zone. Manage all reporting and accounting functions related to the warehouse inventory, billing, and the remittance and collection of funds.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Manage appropriate customs declarations related to inbounds, permits to transfer, admissions, and entries.
• Manage daily inventory reconciliation processes with the AS400 system and resolve discrepancies.
• Manage commercial documentation against shipment receipts to determine shortages or overages.
• Manage the preparation of annual inventory reconciliation, and FTZ reports.
• Manage the submission of quarterly harbor maintenance fees on all ocean shipments.
• Maintain an awareness of loss prevention, security, and safety by following all policies and procedures.
• Manage import brokerage and traffic systems to facilitate the clearance of cargo and ISF or cargo movement to the final destination.
• Develop and maintain FTZ operating manual specific to zone operations.
• Prepare and present training material to internal and external clients.
• Educate internal and external clients on FTZ regulatory laws.
• Manage cross-departmental relationships with the logistics team.

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or a related field
• Customs Brokerage License preferred
• Knowledge of inventory management processes is required.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in customs brokerage and FTZ operations experience.
• Strong knowledge of customs regulations, FTZ Board Regulations, and the Harmonized Schedule is required.
• Basic knowledge of accounting functions and inventory management processes is preferred.
• Must be able to pass any federal/state/local government, airport, or company-required background checks, clearances, and drug tests.

Physical Requirements This position requires sitting, talking, using their hands, eyes, and ears (80%), and walking (20%). Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
