Logistics Director directs and oversees operations within the organization’s logistics department. Develops logistics plans and procedures to ensure that internal and client needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Coordinates domestic shipments via freight carriers or domestic shipping companies to ensure the best possible rate & transit time.
- Daily management and compliance procedures of the logistics department, ensuring full compliance with federal and state rules and regulations.
- Verifies that shipments are sent with the least amount of errors possible.
- Responsible for the complete and accurate processing of domestic shipments, quoting, invoicing, and rating all shipping documentation.
- Ensures that all Shipping Coordinators elaborate invoices according to special instructions for their respective accounts.
- Updates company information of couriers in the system.
- Provides customer service to couriers and customers when needed.
- Accountable for achieving company objectives regarding to cost, productivity, customer service and profits.
- Experience of Air and Ocean Export and Import (LCL and FCL) Knowledge of LTL, FTL, Break- bulk, RORO Shipments. Able to obtain and manage our NVOCC License and FMC.
- Manages team of warehouse employees to ensure accurate packing and handling of every shipment.
- Determines work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow.
- Issues written and oral instructions to Logistics team.
- Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of team members.
- Confers with other managers in the distribution center to ensure coordination of other warehouse activities.
- Confers with other managers outside of the distribution center to ensure coordination of other functions such as production, inventory management and quality assurance.
- Identifies employees’ skills and develops them by coaching and counseling employees on a regular basis.
- Conducts annual performance reviews and provides continual feedback on both positive and negative performance.
- Assesses the personnel needs within the Shipping Warehouse and Logistics team.
- Partners with HR to verify that all personnel positions for each individual area are accurately filled.
- Interviews potential new candidates for open positions within the Shipping Warehouse and Logistics departments.
- Regularly analyzes the processes for each Shipping Warehouse area to adjust for constantly changing workloads
Knowledge and Skills
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or related area preferred
· 5+ Years working in a Logistics environment
· 3+ Years working in a management role
· Detailed oriented with ability to oversee projects from planning to implementation
· Bilingual English and Spanish required
· Excellent knowledge of air and ocean exports operations, invoicing and preparing export documentations for domestic markets, LTL, FTL, Break-bulk, and RORO shipments
· Excellent understanding of the laws that are related to shipping and US Customs regulations.
