A typical battery has a positive terminal “Anode” and a negative terminal “Cathode” the electrons flow from the anode to the cathode. A marine vessel is basically a giant battery, the saltwater is the electrolyte and the dissimilar metal components below the waterline are the cathodes and anodes. The most reactive metal becomes the anode and it is eroded most quickly. CTP anodes are made out of Zinc to make sure metal components are protected from erosion, by reacting faster than the metal it is protecting, being consumed slowly before the other metal reacts with the electrolyte.
