The function of a Rotocoil is to rotate the valve on each open and close cycle. By rotating the valve, it prevents excessive carbon build up and the valve wears uniformly preventing loss of compression.

Most OE manufacturers do not recommend reusing rotocoils. Turning a rotocoil by hand is no indication of its functionality. Most new rotocoils will not turn freely or smoothly when turned by hand. Rotocoils should be replaced when an engine is overhauled.
