Job Summary

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for directing the daily activities of the warehouse, including labor scheduling, supervision, and proper utilization of space, equipment, and manpower.  Key responsibilities include: Staffing, warehouse operation, maintenance of the facility and equipment, implementation of safety/security/housekeeping/and sanitation programs, budgeting, and customer service.

The Warehouse Manager serves as an interface and coordinator among warehouse operations, customer service and Sales.  The Warehouse Manager is accountable for the safe, efficient, and economical operation of the facility and equipment.

You must be able to react to changes productively and handle miscellaneous tasks as assigned.  Also, this position requires being flexible in the event that management requires you to either move to a different distribution center or assume other functions.




Develop and direct programs to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of the warehouse.  Plan and schedule all distribution services including receiving, storing, shipping, handling returned/damaged goods, maintenance, and administrative activities to ensure customer requirements are met in an efficient manner.  Plan long-range labor needs based on sales forecasts and input from management.  Make recommendations to senior management on programs to improve operations.



Develop and implement an effective receiving/shipping operation that minimizes cost and ensures receiving/shipping paper work is processed accurately and promptly.  When necessary assure that orders are shipped in a timely fashion with prescribed cost levels.


Labor Management

Direct the operations of the warehouse supervisory personnel to achieve prescribe objectives.  In collaboration with Human Resources, develop and maintain a productive work team by creating programs for hiring and training.  Apply sound communication and motivational techniques in supervising, counseling, and disciplining subordinates.  Prepare performance evaluation for recommending promotions and wage increases.



Attend warehouse meetings.  Interact with General Manager/ Logistics Director and Warehouse Supervisors to establish goals.  Interact with traffic, customer service, human resources, maintenance, and warehouse employees.  Act as liaison between employees and top management.



Develop procedures to ensure the efficient operation and utilization of all warehouse equipment.  Monitor the cleanliness and working condition of all equipment (Forklifts, clamps, handjacks, etc) and oversee adjustments and/or repairs necessary.  On a daily basis, reports utilization to accounting.  Adjust the quantity and type of equipment to meet business needs and minimize costs.  In conjunction with the Maintenance Manager, develop and implement a program of equipment maintenance.



Develop, implement, and direct programs to ensure the safety of all personnel, equipment, and property.  Provide safety instruction to personnel as need (formal/informal).  Report all work-related injuries to Human Resources immediately.  Assure compliance with OSHA regulations.



Create and manage programs to keep tools and equipment in designated areas; schedule cleaning of equipment; store product in neat straight rows inside painted perimeters; salvage or dispose of all damaged freight with 30 days of customer approval; supervise cleaning of restrooms and break rooms, maintain strict rodent an pest control; assure compliance with appropriate government regulations
